A. Zero-Waste Commissioner


1. Powers
a. Serves as a voting member of the Environmental Affairs Committee. b. Oversees Environmental Affairs Green Team.


2. Responsibilities
a. Shall promote sustainable campus practices through the Environmental
Affairs Committee.
b. Shall organize annual recycling competitions, such as America Recycles Day
and RecycleMania.
c. Shall coordinate recycling and zero-waste efforts with university event
planners.
d. Shall coordinate with the Commencement Logistics Committee through the
Director of University Affairs on organizing recycling and zero-waste efforts
at the annual commencement ceremony.
e. Shall organize annual end of the year Move-Out Days program to help
reduce student waste from the Residential Halls.
f. Shall organize annual Move-In program during Welcome Weekend each fall
semester.
g. Shall maintain quarterly recycling audits for the organization to analyze with
the University.
h. Shall promote and builds campus recycling program.
i. Shall meet regularly with the Marketing and Sustainability manager of
Sodexo, campus dining services.
j. Shall meet regularly with the Associate Director of Quality Improvement and Campus Sustainability Coordinator, specific to recycling and zero-waste only.
k. The Zero-Waste Commissioner hall have such other powers and perform duties as may be assigned by the Environmental Senator, Articles of the Associated Students, Bylaws or Coded Memoranda.


B. Alternative Transportation Commissioner

1. Powers
a. Serves as a voting member of the Environmental Affairs Committee.

2. Responsibilities
a. Shall promote sustainable campus practices through Environmental Affairs Committee.
b. Shall coordinate bi-annual Bike Nights.
c. Shall coordinate campus involvement with the annual Monterey County Bike
Week.
d. Shall analyze campus biking paths/boulevards through student surveys,
studies, and advocacy in collaboration with TRIPwise services and Campus
Planning.
e. Shall serve as the Environmental Affairs Committee liaison to the Otter
Cycle Center for any support or collaborative efforts.
f. Shall meet regularly with the campus Transportation Planner.
g. The Alternative Transportation Commissioner Shall have such other powers
and perform duties as may be assigned by the Environmental Senator, Articles of the Associated Students, Bylaws or Coded Memoranda.

C. Energy Commissioner

1. Powers
a. Serves as a voting member of the Environmental Affairs Committee.

2. Responsibilities
a. Shall promote sustainable campus practices through Environmental Affairs Committee.
b. Shall advocate for sustainable and renewable energy sources and usage for the campus.
c. Shall organize energy conservation awareness and programs such as the annual Earth Hour and Campus Conservation Nationals.
d.Shall serve as the Environmental Affairs Committee representative for the Energy Innovations Fund.
e. Shall meet regularly with the Associate Director of Facilities and Operations (Energy Manager).
f. The Energy Commissioner shall have such other powers and perform duties as may be assigned by the Environmental Senator, Articles of the Associated Students, Bylaws or Coded Memoranda.

D. Sustainable Service Commissioner

1. Powers
a. Serves as a voting member of the Environmental Affairs Committee.

2. Responsibilities
a. Shall promote sustainable campus practices through the Environmental
Affairs Committee Shall meets regularly with the community groups
including Citizens for Sustainable Marina and Citizens for Sustainable
Seaside.
b. Shall organize and coordinates volunteers for campus and community
volunteer and service activities such as Campus Clean-Ups, Beach Clean-
Ups, and Community Service outreach opportunities.
c. Shall organize all Blood Drives planned each semester (Red Cross and
CHOMP).
d. Shall organize Green-Teen high school outreach program.
e. Shall maintain records of all service hours completed by Environmental
Affairs Committee and work in collaboration with the Service Senator to
report them.
f. Shall meet regularly with the Service Senator.
g. Shall meets regularly with the county organization Citizens for Sustainable
Monterey County.
h. The Sustainable Service Commissioner have such other powers and perform
duties as may be assigned by the Environmental Senator, Articles of the Associated Students, Bylaws or Coded Memoranda.

E. Sustainable Program Commissioner

1. Powers
a. Serves as voting members of the Environmental Affairs Committee.
b.Serves as a designee member of the Programming Board.

2. Responsibilities
a. Shall promote sustainable campus practices through Environmental Affairs Committee.
b. Shall serve as a liaison to the Programming Board.
c. Shall assist the Environmental Senator with planning Sustainability Week
(fall), Earth Week (spring) and other sustainability and environmental
awareness/appreciation events.
d. Shall serve as the Environmental Affairs Committee representative on
campus event planning committees such as Focus the Region and
Sustainability symposiums.
e. Shall organize AS services such as EC Free-Be, Swap Shops, etc.
f. Shall serve as a liaison and partner with student clubs and organizations and
campus departments for events focusing on sustainability and environmental
awareness/appreciation.
g. Shall advocate and collaborate with other student clubs and organizations to
“green” their programs.
h. Shall have such other powers and perform duties as may be assigned by the
Environmental Senator, Articles of the Associated Students, Bylaws or Coded Memoranda.
