Zero-Waste Coordinator

1. Powers
a. Serves as a voting member of the Environmental Affairs Committee
b. Oversees Environmental Affairs Green Team


2. Responsibilities
a. Promotes sustainable campus practices through Environmental Affairs Committee
b. Meets regularly with the sustainability manager of sodexo dining services and monthly with the Director of Facilities (concerning recycling and waste only)
c. Organizes yearly recycling competitions, such as America Recycles Day and RecycleMania
d. Coordinates recycling and zero-waste efforts with university event planners
e. Coordinates with the Commencement committee on organizing Recycling and Zero-Waste efforts at the annual commencement ceremony
f. Organizes annual end of the year Move-Out Days program to help reduce student waste from the Residential Halls
g. Organizes annual Move-In program during Welcome Weekend each fall semester
h. Maintains quarterly recycling audits from Waste Management and Facilities for the annual A.S. end of the year report
i. Promotes and builds campus recycling program


Transportation and Energy Coordinator


1. Powers
a. Serves as a voting member of the Environmental Affairs Committee


2. Responsibilities
a. Promotes sustainable campus practices through Environmental Affairs Committee
b. Meets regularly with campus Transportation Planner and Assistant Director of Energy
c. Meets monthly with Outdoor Recreation Coordinator for Student Activities and Leadership Development.
d. Coordinates bi-annual Bike Nights
e. Coordinates campus involvement with the annual Monterey County Bike Week
f. Advocates for sustainable and renewable energy sources and usage for the campus
g. Evaluates campus biking paths/boulevards through student surveys, studies, and advocacy in conjunction with TRIPwise services and Outdoor Recreation
h. Serves as a student representative for the Energy Innovations Fund
i. Organizes energy conservation awareness/activities such as the annual Earth Hour


Service Coordinator


1. Powers
a. Serves as a voting member of the Environmental Affairs Committee


2. Responsibilities
a. Promotes sustainable campus practices through Environmental Affairs Committee
b. Meets regularly with the community action groups including Citizens for Sustainable Marina and Citizens for Sustainable Monterey County
c. Organizes and coordinates volunteers for campus and community volunteer and service activities such as Campus Clean-Ups, Beach Clean-Ups, and Community Service outreach opportunities
d. Organizes and runs all Blood Drives planned each semester (Red Cross and CHOMP)
e. Organizes Green-Teen high school outreach program
f. Maintains records of all service hours completed by Environmental Affairs Committee for Associated Students annual end of the year report


Programming and Events Coordintaor


1. Powers
a. Serves as voting members of the Environmental Affairs Committee


2. Responsibilities
a. Promotes sustainable campus practices through Environmental Affairs Committee
b. Serves as a liaison to the A.S. Programming Board
c. Assists the Environmental Senator with planning Earth Week and other sustainability and environmental awareness/appreciation events
d. Represents the AS Environmental Committee on campus event planning committees such as Focus the Region and Sustainability symposiums.
e. Organizes internal EA programs such as EC Free-Be, funding factory, etc…
f. Serves as a liaison and partner with student organizations and campus departments for events focusing on sustainability and environmental awareness/appreciation


Communications Coordinator


1. Powers
a. Serves as voting members of the Environmental Affairs Committee


2. Responsibilities
a. Promotes sustainable campus practices through Environmental Affairs Committee
b. Serves as a liaison to the AS Chief Communications Committee
c. Designs all Environmental Affairs materials, including but not limited to posters, annual pamphlet, shirts, etc…
d. Up keeps Environmental Affairs Social Network sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc…)
e. Organizes all tabling efforts/awareness for university events (Open House, Otter Showcase, etc…) and coordinates EA Committee members to table for all events and awareness
f. Organizes all classroom presentations with Environmental Science department/professors
g. Writes bi-monthly articles for Sustainability section for the online edition of the Otter Realm
h. Keeps track of weekly meeting minutes, including emergency meetings if necessary
