(A.S.) President’s Letter To The Students To see old President's Letters click here. 8-23-07
To The Students: I hope summer went well. For all the first time freshmen reading this, congratulations, you’ve made it! For those who are returning, we’re glad to see your faces back on campus, many left with graduation. Before I speak further about what is happening within A.S. I want to say, let this be the greatest year of your Life! It’s all up to you… As an organization, Associated Students finished up their summer retreat and reconvened the next week to finish up our goals for the year. If you know me personally, I am always talking about the things we are doing for you, but I’m serious! We have a lot of great things for you this next year. If you enjoy one of our events or have fun at a subsidiary organizations’ event please let us know, so we can do it again. Also, if you have ideas about what could make this campus feel more alive please tell us, so we can do it. The two go hand in hand and we look forward to either your praise or criticism. We are here for you. Some of the things we accomplished over summer for you don’t just have to do with partying, dancing or music. I know, I know, what else is there right? Well how about education outside of the class room? I mean this is college, education extends beyond the classroom. To increase education, in your daily Life, we’ve brought in The New York Times and The Monterey Herald four days a week, Monday through Thursday. There will be a hundred and fifty papers a day of each, effectively increasing the education level here at CSUMB. A.S. is using your student fees’ to pay for this program, which gives you the opportunity to pick up a free newspaper everyday. If you want more specifics please email or call me. Also, as explained in the last President’s Letter, we have a luau themed dance coming up. On Sept. 5th, the campus club fair showcase will be held from five to seven at night and our dance will happen from eight-thirty to eleven at the student center. We have worked with Sodexho, our food service provider on campus, and they will be serving a themed dinner that night, luau style! (Thanks Sodexho) I encourage all of you first time freshmen to come out because this is not only a great way to have fun, but a great way to meet other students as well. For all you returning students, I better see you out there! I mean, it’s your money we used to pay for this… Lastly, there is a new meal program on campus. It is not a declining balance system anymore, where you buy whatever you pick up. Now it is a block meal system where it is all you can eat for one block meal. There is some controversy over this, so it is up to you THE STUDENT to voice your opinion about how you like it. If you have any concerns, complaints and/or even praise please email Dan Kaupie (The Food Service G.M), Maria A.Y. Garcia (Foundations and the one who made the decision to change the meal plan) and myself. Each of us can be found on first class by typing in our first and last names. Let’s have the greatest year of our lives. Call or email me… Bobby James (Robert Graham) 916-833-3903 Robert_graham@csumb.edu |
